Dear Griffon Bruxellois Club Officials:
I am contacting you for your help and support.
The Griffon Bruxellois Clubs of the world need to unite in an effort to
raise funds in support of a research grant focused on two health conditions
found in the Griffon Bruxellois breed. Chiari Malformation (CM) and
Syringomyelia (SM) has been diagnosed through MRI testing in 46% of Griffon
Brussels tested that were assumed “Clear” of the condition by the dogs breeders
prior to testing. Dr. Clare Rusbridge has 50 Griffon Bruxellois
participants in the study that had no signs or symptoms at the time of testing
yet as stated above 46% when tested had Syringomyelia.
The goal of this email is to encourage all breeders
and the breed clubs in the USA, Australian, Europe, Scandinavia and the UK to
join together to raise moneys for this research, participation and increase
awareness of these two serious health problems in our beloved breed.
Thanks to Ruth Pereira and her ability to encourage
the Canine Health Foundation (CHF), a non-profit foundation, to organize a
canine research grant, our breed has an opportunity to begin working toward identifying
DNA markers so that we will be able to use a simple blood test in the future to
diagnose affected dogs. But we must take a first step and that is to
support this Grant #1004 so that we can begin the research process.
The CHF organization has approved a $140,000 for a
research grant with a stipulation that “MATCHING FUNDS” in the amount of
$70,000 is raised. So far we have collected almost $20,000. The
deadline for donating funds for Grant #1004t is: March 7th at
which time the board of directors for the CHF will vote on final approval of
the grant. Our realistic goal is to raise $35,000 and trust that some
major contributors and “friends of CHF” will support the grant with additional
moneys and that CHF will agree to donate other CHF funds to meet any
outstanding balance necessary to move forward to begin the research. It
is our belief that if we can at least raise $35,000 (which is a realistic goal)
this research grant will move forward too.
If each of you would ask your breeders to donate money
to CHF using the directions below or if your breed Club’s would make a Club
donation to the CHF it would show worldwide concern and support that would
encourage the CHF Advisory Board and their decision to support the Griffon
Bruxellois Grant #1004.
So far we have raised money from the following
supporters:
Australia’s
Brussels Griffon Club is preparing to donate - $5,000
A private donation from Ruth Pereira has been made of - $5,000
Checks and on-line donations have been solicited and received that total about
- $6,000
The American Brussels Griffon Club donated $1,000 to start the fundraising
effort and is preparing to launch another raffle fundraiser campaign next week.
